Common Questions

Answers for families starting out

What exactly is a professional intervention?

An intervention is a structured, carefully prepared conversation that helps a family come together to encourage a loved one to accept help. Nathan guides the entire process — planning who should be involved, preparing what each person will say, anticipating reactions, and creating a clear path toward treatment or the next right step.

What does working with Point Break include?

An intervention is a complete, guided engagement: assessment and planning, family preparation, professional facilitation on intervention day, coordination and transport to treatment, and up to 20 hours of post-intervention recovery coaching. The specifics are tailored to your family and discussed during your confidential consultation.

Is everything I share really confidential?

Yes. Every conversation with Point Break is kept strictly confidential, from the very first call through follow-up. You do not need to have all the answers, or even be certain you want an intervention, before reaching out.

Do you only work with families in Florida?

Point Break is based in Florida but serves families nationwide. Nathan is available for both in-person support and remote guidance, so distance is rarely a barrier to getting started.

What happens on the first call?

The first call is a private, no-pressure conversation. Nathan listens to what is happening, helps you understand your options, and works with you to identify a realistic next step. There is no obligation to move forward — the goal is simply clarity.

What if my loved one refuses help?

Resistance is common, and it does not mean the situation is hopeless. Much of Nathan's work is helping families set healthy boundaries, communicate honestly, and stop patterns of enabling — which often changes the dynamic even when a loved one is initially unwilling.

Can you guarantee my loved one will accept treatment?

No — and any professional who promises that is not being honest with you. An intervention meaningfully improves the odds, but outcomes depend on many factors outside of anyone's control. What makes the biggest difference is full family participation and follow-through, which Nathan prepares you for every step of the way.

Is this a substitute for medical or clinical treatment?

No. Point Break provides intervention, recovery coaching, and family support — it is not a substitute for emergency medical care, psychiatric care, or licensed clinical treatment. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

“Reaching out can feel difficult — but you don’t have to have everything figured out before making the call.”
